Qualcomm announces Linux support for Snapdragon X2 Series processors.
Snapdragon X2 Series processors enable agentic AI on PCs. Linux support expands to Debian by end of 2026 and Ubuntu by H1 2027, with core drivers for Hexagon NPU and Adreno GPU being upstreamed. New devices include Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch with Snapdragon X2 Plus, Dell XPS Googlebook, HP Googlebook 14, Lenovo IdeaPad Vibe, and HUMAIN Horizon Ultra. The ecosystem has over 120 retail partners, 13,000 business deployments, and 7,300 applications.
What commenters are saying
Commenters are cautiously optimistic but recall similar promises for the first Snapdragon X that saw slow upstreaming and driver issues. Some point to Qualcomm's history of closed-source blobs and outdated kernels on Android devices. Others note that if upstreaming is done properly, the integrated SoC could make an excellent Linux laptop platform. A few mention early OpenBSD support and hope for Framework mainboards.
